"The Abduction of Persephone" by Pluto Amphipolis

Pluto is God of the Underworld. Dante' in the trilogy "The Divine Comedy" details the realm of the Underworld in the "Inferno", where he traveled while still alive.

Pluto represents power, empowerment, death & rebirth, transformation, regeneration, metamorphosis, renewal, annihilation, demolished, devastation, degeneration, destruction, undermined, decayed, obliterated, eradicated, slaughtered, fear obsession and morbidity. It is redemption or damnation. The living heaven or hell you create. This is a powerful symbol embodying death/rebirth - the beginning and end of life.

Pluto aligns well with Scorpio as the sign is intense, deep and dark. Scorpio has the sting -- which can be used as a weapon or a reminder.

The image above is when Persephone, was abducted by Pluto -- Persephone, beloved daughter of Demeter was picking flowers with other young goddesses. Persephone was beguiled by the most beautiful flower she had ever seen, a narcissus with a hundred blossoms, when suddenly the earth split open and out roared Pluto, god of the Underworld, on a chariot drawn by coal-black horses. He took Persephone and bore her back down to his underground kingdom.

Knowing only that her daughter was missing, Demeter searched everywhere until at last she heard the truth from Helios, the sun god, who could see all. Demeter learned that Pluto had not only taken her daughter but also proposed to marry her--and that Zeus, the king of the gods and Persephone's father, had approved.

Demeter was devastated. In her despair, she neglected the earth, and for an entire year the ground was barren, no crops grew, and famine threatened all.

Demeter begged Zeus to reconsider, and at last, looking out at the desolate earth and starving people, he agreed. But he said, "Persephone can return only if she has not eaten any food in Pluto's dark kingdom." Demeter was overjoyed.

But meanwhile, deep underground, a hungry and thirsty Persephone had accepted a few pomegranate seeds from Pluto. and so Demeter had to compromise. Because she had eaten food in the Underworld, Persephone had to remain there for three months of every year. And in those three months Demeter mourns her missing daughter, and in those months the earth is barren and no plants grow. But when Persephone returns to her mother in spring, the earth is renewed and green and winter is no longer..

Persephone returns to Pluto at the Winter Solstice this year on December 21st, when winter begins.
